My two cents worth –
I wanted a simple Wi-Fi thermostat that worked with Alexa and my phone app. Simple to install and it works great. Love the blue light display for any manual adjustment. Great price and that’s my two cents worth.

Affordable Smart Thermostat with Good Automation, but a Persistent App Bug
I’ve used this for over a month (including part of the 2026 Winter Storm Fern) in a one-bedroom apartment with an HVAC heat pump and exterior condenser unit—both unfortunately located on my building’s rooftop and fully exposed to the elements. I replaced an old digital Honeywell thermostat that worked fine but had no features beyond on/off and temperature setting.Main Issue (Reason for Deducting One Star):There’s a bug with temperature units displaying inconsistently between the SmartLife app and Google Home.Fahrenheit is my default unit in both apps. The physical thermostat and SmartLife app display Fahrenheit correctly, but the device in Google Home shows Celsius. No amount of resetting, reconfiguring, or resyncing fixes it.It gets stranger:• If I change the device to Fahrenheit in Google Home, the thermostat and SmartLife switch to Celsius.• If I change SmartLife to Fahrenheit, all SmartLife devices switch correctly—but *only this thermostat* appears in Google Home in Fahrenheit while other SmartLife temperature devices still show Celsius. It’s not a dealbreaker for me because this is affordable, I rent and rarely change settings, but if I owned a home I wouldn’t buy this unless that bug were fixed.Secondary Issue (Reason for Deducting a Second Star):The unit is missing the switch for “electrical or gas” on the back-side of the control panel.Installation & Programming:Swapping the thermostat took less than 30 minutes. Connecting to my Wi-Fi and the SmartLife app was quick and easy.I used a multimeter to confirm the system runs on 24V since I couldn’t verify the voltage on the old Honeywell unit (there are plenty of YouTube tutorials showing how to check this). Wire swapping was straightforward—just match the wire labels on the back of both thermostats.Tip: Take a photo before disconnecting anything. My HVAC wiring harness looked standard, but the installer had repurposed one wire color and left a few unused.Smart Features:The SmartLife app is fairly basic but more than bare-bones. Useful features include:• Temperature swing programming• Manual temperature calibration (if the thermostat reads a couple degrees off)• Scheduling options (7-day or 5+1+1)One thing missing is power-consumption tracking, which is odd because even budget smart outlets often include it.Google Home automations are where this thermostat really shines. I can set routines and override them easily if my schedule changes. During a recent week-long trip, I programmed day/night heating routines so my cat stayed warm during a cold spell.Cost Savings:So far, I’m not seeing any.Heating costs about $140/month in winter running the heat to 67°F when I’m home. Even with smart scheduling and swing settings, my bill hasn’t changed compared to the old thermostat. An HVAC tech told me the main issue is the heat pump and its exposed rooftop location. According to him—and my utility’s usage data—apartments with rooftop heat pumps are simply inefficient in winter. The pump has to run long enough to defrost and then reach heat temp. The longer the pump is off, the colder it gets, and then the more power it takes to defrost. For a heat-pump, it may be just as efficient to run multiple short blasts of heat with a dumb-thermostat as it is to run less frequent, long blasts of heat with a swing-setting enabled smart thermostat. So while the smart features are nice, don’t expect major savings if your HVAC system itself is the problem.

Works well once installed
This is a nice and simple wifi thermostat that uses an app for most programming and temperature control. It’s taken me a while to write this review because the thermostat doesn’t come with a C wire, which it absolutely should since there is no battery backup. Because of this, it was past my very simple electrical knowledge so I had to hire my HVAC company to install it to be on the safe side. I do like that the QR code for the accompanying app is right on the unit, so that when we go to move, the new owners will be able to easily access the controls to the unit without much hassle. The app is user friendly and very intuitive and has made it super nice to be able to control the thermostat without having to walk to the thermostat since here in the Midwest the weather has been so crazy with snow one day and 60’s the next. It works well and is a definite upgrade to our old system, I just think it should come with everything that’s needed to install it and I also think a battery backup would make more sense.
