Good particle and VOC capture with a well designed UV function
I’ve picked up multiple Provirtec purifiers over time and there’s something I’ve liked in every one. They seem to think about each machine distinctly. In this case the filter is pretty substantial, but it comes with 3 additional pre-screens in the box. The machine itself has a UV and ion function with the UV targeted at the inside of the filter to help stop bacteria and such from dividing in order to escape the filter. The machine has a solid top which is nice for setting sensors on the machine. More functionally it means then when your cat decides this is its perch, the machine will still be working. The sleep mode was down below 35db when I measured it right on the machine which means a foot away from the machine you’ll hardly realize the machine is running. The sleep mode does douse the lights. There is a turbo setting which ramps the speed pretty significantly and an automation mode which uses the PM2.5 sensor readings to dial up and down the sound. Automation never goes into turbo, but if it’s on a low reading, it stays down at the same speed as the sleep mode. The automation works which I confirmed by using a essential oil diffuser. Whether the filter will go for 2 years is going to be dependent on your experience. However, the average particles and VOC in a home is understood and the rate of capture of the filter is understood. Using the pre-screens gets rid of big items, so with regular maintenance a lot of homes can get through those 2 years. That said – inevitably there will be someone who comes along and wants to buy the replacement now. Just keep in mind that when you see those reviews it’s someone who doesn’t have your best interest in mind. Activated carbon is literally activated in the factory using a process you can’t refresh at home. It starts adsorbing from that moment. So, if you buy the replacement at the same time as the machine, when it comes time to swap out the filter, you’ll have hepa capture in the new filter but no longer have active carbon working. Buy your replacements fresh when you need them.

Nevertheless, considering its price point and feature set, this unit offers tangible benefits for improving daily air quality in households with pets.
