Great for paint especially, but does only test 2 polutants
Requires calibration, but it is easy to calibrate. The calibration involves letting it sit in clean air for 5 minutes, then moving it to where you want to test immediately after. Outdoors seems like the cleanest air you can get so that’s what I did. This would be problematic if one was testing in a tall building or similar where access to fresh air could be a challenge. Or if you live in a place with notable outdoor air polution. I found I can carry it around after calibration to move it from spot to spot, so that’s an option, but it takes a couple minutes for the reading to settle down after being moved. For the price this does a pretty good job testing for 2 common polutants, but there are other very important polutants which are not tested. Particulate matter (smoke, dust, alergens, pollen, spores) and Carbon Monoxide being examples.I think the main purpose for a lot of people will be to see how bad their new carpet or fresh paint have impacted their air quality. This will give you an idea of whether a safety limit is being crossed.

Air tester
I never got a clear reading not sure if it works or not…hard to determine at this timeBut I was just testing the air..Not really concerning because results showed good air quality for 10$ you can’t expect much😊

Basic Formaldehyde and TVOC meter
This is a nice basic use meter to test for levels of TVOC (Total Volatile Organic Compounds) and Formaldehyde in the air. With everything being made of something chemical now- it is nice to see just what is in the indoor air we are breathing- and if those levels are something that would be considered dangerous over the long term. This meter has a very low range for formaldehyde- making it very sensitive in picking up if any is present- but not very good above a certain level- meaning it is not designed for industrial use. If you are using these chemicals seriously in manufacturing or some type of craft process- I would invest in a higher quality professional meter. What this is great for is letting you know that there is some formaldehyde present in the air as a warning to either ventilate or call a professional. The range for formaldehyde is 0.000-2.888 mg/m3 (this is 0-2.3 ppm using the conversion factor that 1 ppm = 1.249 mg/m3). 20 ppm is considered IDLH for formaldehyde- so this meter is going to alert you to a problem way before you are in serious danger as it starts to alarm when the concentration gets above 0.09 mg/m3.TVOC has a wider range of 0.000-9.999 mg/m3. Anything above 0.5 mg/m3 indoors should be raising suspicion and prompting a search for the source with higher numbers possibly needing a call to a hazmat capable resource.I tested the sensor with isopropyl alcohol in hand sanitizer and as expected the TVOC numbers jumped and it alarmed after a few seconds of being placed near the mouth of the container. I was surprised that the formaldehyde readings also increased so there may be some cross reactivity of the sensors. I am not surprised by that- as this meter costs $25 and most professional grade industrial meters are upwards of $500- so these aren’t the highest quality sensors available.I love that the meter is just battery operated with 2 AA batteries. It is lightweight and portable and is easy enough to use if you read the instructions. The calibration is a little confusing- as should it be calibrated every time you use it or just monthly like we do with the meters at work? It wouldn’t hurt to recalibrate often with fresh air- but be sure the air is fresh outdoors and not near a fire or a neighbor who using gasoline powered tools.Overall, this is a nice little meter for home use to test if these compounds are present in the air you are breathing indoors. I wouldn’t be so sure to trust the exact numbers other than if it alarms I would either find the source safely or call a professional. Good price for what you are getting as long as you understand the meter’s capabilities. Happy to recommend.

Detects Bad Air Quality
The red digital display on this unit is bright and very easy to read. One annoyance when turning the unit every time is a 180-second countdown on the display, waiting for the calibration/initialization process to complete….it seems to take forever. Once that completes, it’s ready to sniff out bad air. In addition to detecting formaldehyde, the detector also can sense total volatile organic compounds (TVOC).When I tried this unit out, I found no out of the ordinary readings in my surrounding area, with both readings in the green range at less than .008. To test its ability to sniff out TVOC, I opened a can of mineral spirits and blew into the container to allow the petroleum fumes to mingle in the air a bit. Within a few seconds, the alarm beeper on the unit went off and a red LED indicator showed a warning which coincided with high numbers on the display. While I was unable to verify the device’s ability to test for high levels of formaldehyde, I was impressed by how quickly it responded to a high VOC level. This detector can be a very useful tool to make you aware of contaminated air that is harmful to breathe long term.

The most confusing thing
The most complicated thing, can’t get it to work or figure it out. Multiple people tried this and also couldn’t get it to work. If you like a puzzle and things to confuse you then purchase this, you won’t be disappointed.
