Vornado takes small electic heaters to a new level with the flexible VC-01 ceramic heater
Vornado has almost reinvented small electric heaters with the VC-01 Ceramic Heater. It’s dramatically different in design from other models.THE PHYSICAL DESIGN GIVES PLACEMENT OPTIONS: The design of the VC-01 allows it to be placed in a greater variety of locations, especially with the 15 degree tilt; the wider and shorter size; and the Personal / Whole Room options. It seems more easily placed on a desk or shelf than the other Vornado models I’ve used. The VC-01 also looks really good, see the photos.When thinking about placement, note that the Vornado VC-01 weighs 4.4 lbs and measures 9.7 inches wide, 7 inches deep, and 5.9 inches tall. (See the photo.) It has a 6 foot cord and uses a 2-pin polarized plug.FLEXIBLE LOW AND HIGH HEATING OPTIONS: The VC-01 has a lower heat option that uses 785 watts, and a higher heat option using 1500 watts. (Note that 1500 watts is a lot of heat if used in the close-up, Personal Mode, it’s beyond toasty.)OPTIONS FOR MOVING HEAT: Vornado knows how to move air. We have a couple of Vornado fans. They are unusually effective at moving air in useful ways. On the VC-01, the Personal Mode and the Whole Room Mode offer two different options for circulating heat.- Personal Mode is very quiet and meant to circulate heat near the heater.- Whole Room Mode is louder and circulates heat farther.There is a fan-only mode, without heat, for each mode.SOUND LEVELS: The Personal Mode is surprisingly quiet. The Whole Room Mode makes a meaningful amount of noise, but that can’t really be avoided – moving air makes noise. Also, the fan noise from the VC-01 is reasonably pleasant, the sound is very much like a white noise generator.The fan seems to operate at the same level of air movement with or without heat. If you’ve been using the heater, the fan will run for about 20 seconds after it’s turned off to cool the unit down.VORNADO MAKES RELIABLE, SAFE HEATERS: This is the fourth Vornado heater I’ve owned (we used to live in a drafty 200-year-old house). I also have the classic Vornado MVH; the small VH202; and the larger VMH300. It’s a testament to the safety and quality of the heaters that I was comfortable enough to use the heater in my small childrens’ room at night. The VC-01 offers tip-over protection, automatic overheat shutoff if the airflow is blocked, flame-retardant materials, and a cool-touch exteriorA REAL FIVE-YEAR WARRANTY: I’ve used the Vornado warranty once, on fairly new heater where the thermostat simply did not work. The process of getting a replacement under warranty was efficient and speedy.THE VC-O1 HAS NO THERMOSTAT: Speaking of thermostats, the VC-01 does not have a thermostat. That might make this the wrong choice for some users. Thermostats can be desirable in some set-it-and-forget-it uses, like overnight heating or maintaining a minimum temperature in a room you don’t really use, if the thermostat works in the room.But on the other hand, thermostats seem like a big source of complaints for small electric heaters. Thermostats simply don’t work well in drafty locations. Drafts can make the heater cycle in a strange manner, go on and off too frequently, and possibly disturb your sleep. It can also be hard to find the right setting for different rooms, or locations within a room. Also, in a very large room or office, where this heater is not going to warm the entire room, a thermostat isn’t useful.But the flexible settings on the VC-01, particularly the high/low setting and the timer, might work better than a thermostat for some applications. In particular, if you’re going to be in the same room as the heater, where you can adjust it if needed, a thermostat might not be necessary.USE THE RIGHT OUTLET OR EXTENSION CORDS: As with any 1500 watt, 13 amp appliance be sure to use outlets that can handle that load. If possible, avoid extension cords; but if one is used be sure it is rated to handle more than that load, and is no longer than necessary.

Solid effective little heater with multiple options!
This space heater works really well and feels much higher quality than I expected. The parts don’t feel cheap at all, and the circulation is great—it heats evenly instead of just blowing hot air in one direction. I use it in my second bedroom, which is my home office, and it warmed the room up quickly without needing to turn on a large heater.It has multiple settings and options, feels sturdy, and overall feels safe to use. I work from home, so having something reliable and efficient like this has been a big plus.The only thing that gave me pause was the warning sticker on the unit. When I peeled it off, some of the black coating came off with it, which made me a little concerned about how that area might hold up with heat over time. That said, it hasn’t affected performance so far. It also isn’t very loud which I definitely appreciate !Overall, I’m very happy with this heater. It does a great job, feels well made, and for the price, I think it’s definitely worth it.
