A reliable, highly customizable thermostat, but check your C-wire situation first
I installed the Honeywell X7B a few weeks ago to replace an old, basic unit in my hallway. Because I live down in Charlotte where the summer humidity gets pretty aggressive, having the built-in indoor air quality and humidity monitoring right on the screen was a major selling point for me. The physical installation was surprisingly simple, though you need to be aware that this unit strictly requires a C-wire for power. My wall already had one ready to go, but if your house is older and doesn’t, you have to send away for a free C-wire adapter voucher included in the box—meaning you won’t be able to finish the installation on the same day. Once I had it wired up, connecting it to the network was completely painless. Unlike a lot of smart home gadgets that force you to isolate a 2.4 GHz network, this natively supports 5.0 GHz Wi-Fi, which made the app setup extremely fast and stable.The daily functionality has been absolutely rock solid. The 4.3-inch touchscreen is very responsive, and I really like that you can heavily customize the display; I set mine to a dark analog clock face so it doesn’t just look like a bright glowing computer screen on the wall at night. Adjusting the temperature remotely through the First Alert app works instantly without any of the lag I’ve experienced with cheaper thermostats. It is worth noting, however, that while the device perfectly monitors your indoor humidity, actually using it to control that humidity requires you to have additional whole-home humidifier or dehumidifier equipment wired into your HVAC system. Still, as a Matter-certified smart thermostat for precision temperature scheduling and monitoring, it is an incredibly capable and easy-to-use device.

Feature rich easy install
This thermostat is easy to program, easy to use with the First Alert app, and does exactly what you want it to do without needing to be an expert. It requires a “C-wire”, which you can verify you have by looking at the wires coming to your old thermostat. Look for the “C” label on your old thermostat’s wire terminal, and if there is something connected there, you have a C-wire. If you don’t have a C-wire, you can get a bypass jumper from Honeywell via mail. You will need WiFi if you want to use the app controls and get the most out of your new thermostat’s “smart features”, but you could use it without WiFi if you wanted to for some reason.The large 4″ display has a backlight and easy to read in any light. The app controls are handy, but it can be controlled equally as well by touch. I have installed the thermostat in a rental unit where I DO NOT want the tenants to be able to control the settings. This device accommodates that through password requirements that allow only authorized users to control the unit.I have simultaneously tested this thermostat with it’s sister the X7S. This one has no occupancy sensing features, but otherwise appears identical in operation.Bottom line: I have tried a bunch of smart thermostats, Honeywell is definitely a contender, particularly with the simplicity of the setup and controls, as well as being a brand you’ve heard of with high customer satisfaction and support. I recommend this thermostat without hesitation.

Versatile & intuitive; a great entry into the smarthome ecosystem
The X7B from Honeywell is a great starter thermostat for those who are looking to dip a toe in the smart home waters. Styled like a traditional thermostat and intuitively laid out, I find it to be very easy to navigate. Installation was very simple for me as I had all the needed wires, including a C-wire, to make the thermostat work. Thankfully, it was already compatible with my equipment, so I did not need to make any modifications or upgrades to my A/C system.Functionality is pretty straightforward overall. The thermostat allows basic modes to be controlled and changed from the unit itself. More detailed controls are available in the app, or in the Google Home dashboard (or whatever smart home dashboard you choose to use).This thermostat is compatible with Google Home, Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and Matter, so interoperability should not be an issue.I think the X7B is an excellent value for the money, as it is quite a bit cheaper than offerings from Google and other manufacturers. Overall, quite pleased and would recommend it.

Very easy to setup and finally have smart monitoring through my home!
This winter was one of the coldest that we had in a while and with that outcome, we had ridiculous gas bills which was super painful to deal with. My partner and I decided we wanted to invest in a smart thermostat to replace our ancient one so that we could better prepare and easily manage the temperature of our home when we’re away during the winter as to prevent paying for unnecessary heat when it’s not being utilized. We go away on vacation for periods of time during the winter so having the heat on all the time is very wasteful which could be monitored and prevented with a smart thermostat. Setting this up was quite easy but we did need a c-wire transformer to be used since our home is on the older end and we did not have a c wire coming from the existing hole in our wall. Setting it up with the app was seamless and we were able to change the display screens and have a bunch of features that were not existent before. Technology has come a long way and it’s very cool to grow with it!
