Excellent Product!!!
Received the Lux TX9600TSa which is their latest version as of this writing. Must say that this is one awesome thermostat, does all the routine programming things, then has a couple of nice extras like counting the hours for filter replacement, and making it possible to set how closely to setpoint it will control the temperature. I generally run my system fan all the time during the summer when the AC is on, and the counting of fan hours and not just system hours is nice. The ability to program one day then quickly copy that to the other days is nice, and then having weekends separately programmable is also very nice. The install was a piece of cake, all worked right the first time. It did take longer than 10 minutes, because of the reading I did first re how to do it – but I do think I could install it again in 10 minutes, easily. I had to call Tech Support and leave a message because I needed to know more about that wall plate – my original old Honeywell thermostat was actually mounted in a junction box and both were thus in “portrait” orientation, and of course I need “landscape” orientation for this Lux. So I called and left a message as instructed, last night about 9:30 PM, and got the call back from one of their tech reps this morning about 8:30 or so, to tell me what I needed . . . which was their wall plate WP567 which he said will cover the old junction box in its entirety – and having since seen the dimensions, it will do so very nicely. So a few minutes after that I ordered it, also from Amazon, although I think Amazon just hosts the storefront for Lux Products. It’s $8.17 and ships via parcel post, pretty good deal. They shipped it within the hour. And the tech said I won’t have to disconnect any wires to put it in place.By way of summary, very nice and for a fair price – I did a fair amount of research online and in stores like Lowes and Homeo Depot before selecting this one, and I am convinced it’s probably the best out there, including several which are more expensive. Good product, good support, fair prices, what else could I want… and we just moved to a 55+ community, have always had a digital thermostat with similar capabilities, but never one that does all the things this one does.

Great basic 7 day programmable thermostat!
I had a previous Lux digital thermostat I replaced with this model just due to the age of the previous unit. My old thermostat was still functioning fine, but I do not necessarily trust modern digital electronics past ten years of age. This thermostat was cheap, and I would rather pay a little money for a new thermostat than experience a thermostat failure during winter. Anyway, my thermostat was super easy to install. All of the thermostat wires were color coded, and I connected each wire to the corresponding terminal on the new thermostat’s mounting plate. Since my previous thermostat was a Lux, I was able to use the existing mounting holes for my base plate as those lined up with the new plate and simply attach the wires to matching terminals. That made my install even easier.I just started using this thermostat a couple weeks ago. It is keeping my house a consistent temperature when compared to another thermometer and my previous thermostat (also cycles at appropriate swing settings). The thermostat is working exactly how it should. I opted for Lux thermostats for a few reasons. I do not have a C wire and need a thermostat that can run on batteries alone. The unit is cheaper than comparable models. The thermostat has a lot of nice features for the price (energy use, filter change, lock out code, temperature set back-which is a temporary hold before automatically resuming program). However, I really like the fact I can adjust the swing temperature on this unit. For those who do not know what swing temperature is, it is the amount of temperature variance the thermostat will allow from the set temperature before turning the HVAC system on and off. A properly adjusted swing temperature allows the HVAC system to run more efficiently (longer run times which are also easier on HVAC system) balanced with occupancy comfort (HVAC cycles more often). I previously had a Honeywell thermostat that short cycled my HVAC system, and I will never use that brand again for that reason.I am running this thermostat on AA batteries as I do not have a C wire. I ran my other thermostat that way for years, and I would just change the batteries right before heating season. I never had to replace them more than once a year and never saw a low battery indicator on my previous thermostat. I do wish it was easier to change the batteries out on this model. I did end up doing what another reviewer mentioned. I opened my thermostat to expose the battery compartment several times before installing it. It did make it a little easier to take apart after it was mounted. There are a couple negatives. Some people mentioned the thermostat is inaccurate when powered by a C wire. I cannot comment on that as mine is soley run on AA batteries. The recovery feature was designed for a stupid California law. The hour maximum recovery time does not allow enough time for my hydronic heat system to adjust reach my set temperature during a Wisconsin winter. I program around that by setting my system to start earlier (again thanks to a dumb law). I will say that the display is kind of hard to read without the backlight. I also wish the unit displayed the current room temperature to tenths of a degree. The thermostat also seems a little slow to read temperature. It is just an observation when I first put batteries in it that it took a minute or two to read the exact room temperature despite being out of its case in my house before I installed batteries. I will add that my heating and cooling system slowly brings my house to the correct temperature, and that has not been an issue with its operation.I will update this review if anything changes.Edit: The temperature has been in the upper teens to lower twenties the past week. I have been playing with the swing setting on my thermostat as I recently installed new triple pane windows. My previous swing setting of +/- 1 was not working for me after my house upgrade. I lowered my swing to .75. I noticed my energy use dropped 45 minutes from previous day which had even warmer temperatures. I am now starting to experiment with other settings to see if they yield greater efficiency gains. I am also toiling with skipping my 6 degree thermostat reduction at night. By reducing the swing setting, I have learned that it takes my boiler more energy to recoupe losses than to maintain the current temperature (recovery time is around three hours of constant boiler operation). I am currently making a chart based off of run time settings based from the run time settings on this thermostat achieve the optimum efficiency. The energy use feature is also something that is great to have. I suggest people actually adjust their thermostats and check the results.

Received the LUX TX9600TS Thermostat from Amazon supplier. Installed very easily; clear instruction manual. bought this one to replace an old LUX Thermostat we had for 10 years. Recommend LUX product for reliability, ease of installation and saving money.

This product was delivered to a commercial address on a Sunday, obviously closed. To make it worse, was left leaning against the door in view of passing traffic even though we have a post / parcel box.????And it rained!!Thankfully the unit survived – great product.

Works as described. Installed in a few minutes. Wiring is easy but you have to make sure you know what style hvac you have.

Finally a well priced one on Amazon that ships to Canada! I currently own a Honeywell touchscreen thermostat RTH8500D and a White Rodgers thermostat UP300C. This one looks the best with an even blacklit screen and large numbers. The Honeywell is the worst with uneven backlit screen and a huge screen but little numbers. The White-Rodgers is the easiest to use with three quickset buttons for home, sleep and away.Pros:- Nice well lit display with large readout- Accurate control of temp- Keeps stats on how long heat has been on- Can adjust swing so that furance doesn’t constantly turn on and off to maintain the set temp.Cons:- Can only set temp in 1℃ increments, others have 0.5℃ increments- Difficult to change the temp, must first tap set temp then arrows appear to increase/ decrease temp. Others have coloured buttons or permanent arrows to change temp, more intuitive.- Once set temp is changed, no way to cancel it to follow the set program again. You must manually change the temp until the override word disappears. Others have a simple cancel button or a hold until… readout.- Isn’t tall enough to cover holes left from the traditional standard thermostat. Only the Honeywell is in this regard. I wish manufacturers would make thermostats that are taller than long to cover the unit they are replacing. I hate patching and painting the area that used to be covered with the unit replaced.I woukd say that the White-Rodger is really the underdog here. It’s cheaper and easier to use. But the Lux is by far cheaper than the Honeywell and looks to be better built
