For years I was using one of those old mercury-style thermostats, the kind with a giant temperature swing that left the house either roasting or freezing with nothing in between. Replacing it with this digital model made an immediate difference. The ±0.5° swing alone is worth it—after installing this unit, the temperature finally stays exactly where I set it instead of drifting wildly the way mechanical thermostats tend to do.The size is just right, and the backlit display makes it easy to read day or night. It runs on AA batteries, which means it’s not dependent on a C-wire, and the battery compartment is simple to access. You just need to remember to swap the batteries once or twice a year.Installation isn’t “intuitive,” but it is straightforward as long as you actually read the instructions. The wiring labels inside the unit are clear, but you still need to match your existing wires properly. In my case, I only have heating—no AC—so once I identified which of my three wires went where, the setup was simple. So Far, So Good After About A Month
This is an OK thermostat for when a smart or programmable thermostat is not wanted. My old thermostat had gotten flaky and didn’t seem to be accurate with either heating or cooling. This thermostat is pretty easy to install and set up. It also has a large well designed backlit LCD display with good contrast that makes it easy to see at a glance without my glasses. However, I was not able to find any manufacturer literature or owner troubleshooting or diagnostic info online other than what was packed with the unit. In fact, I did not really find any info of what company made this thermostat. The information included with the unit was very fine print on a tiny booklet and was hard to see and read, even with my glasses. This is why I decided on a 4 star rating when it could have otherwise gotten a 5. Overall though, it is a nice thermostat and hopefully it will be reliable and long lived.
