Evaluation of the Professional Indoor Air Quality MonitorOVERVIEW OF THE DEVICEThe portable “Professional Indoor Air Quality Monitor” is designed to provide users with a comprehensive set of readings related to indoor air quality. The device displays a wide array of measurements, including the time, particulate matter levels (PM 2.5, PM 1.0, PM10), total volatile organic compounds (TVOC), formaldehyde (HCHO), temperature (TEMP), humidity (HUMI), carbon dioxide (CO2), and an overall Air Quality Index indicated by a color-coded system (Green-Yellow-Orange-Red-…).PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY CONCERNSDespite the impressive list of features, my experience with the monitor has been disappointing. After using it daily for more than two weeks, I have found its performance lacking. Notably, each time I turn the device on, it always settles at the same readings for tVOCs (.015) and CO2 (409). Given the dynamic nature of air quality in my home, such stability in the readings appears unrealistic and raises doubts about the monitor’s accuracy.COMPARISON WITH A HIGH-QUALITY MONITORTo further evaluate the device, I operated a higher quality Luft air quality monitor alongside it. In contrast to the “Professional Indoor Air Quality Monitor,” the Luft device recorded a wide range of tVOC values, from 20 to 483, with an average of 112 ppb. Although the units of measurement differ, the variation was notable. Likewise, the Luft monitor reported eCO2 values fluctuating between 400 and 830, with an average of 551 ppm, demonstrating the expected variability in indoor air quality.
